Researcher Support
The primary concerns of the Graduate School are graduate instruction and research. The SIUC Graduate School offers master's degrees in over 60 programs and the doctoral degree in over 30 programs. Within the colleges and schools are departments whose distinguished faculty offer inspired teaching, conduct innovative research, and facilitate student services from admission to placement.
SIUC has a number of research centers and institutes, some of which are housed in the individual colleges and some of which are housed in the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research. In addition, we belong to various research consortia, and several national and international research organizations are headquartered here.
Faculty, staff, and students across campus may use the services of these facilities for a reasonable fee. See below for descriptions. Most of these facilities are administered by the Office of Vice Chancellor for Research; some are administered by other units.
OSPA and the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research offer several cross-disciplinary programs that provide some financial support to researchers. Also check to see if your college offers internal grants for research.
One advantage of attending a comprehensive research university such as SIUC is the opportunity to participate in research, with faculty and students working together, and with a wide support net of professionals. "Research" may be conducted in any discipline, from science to the arts; we define it broadly as inquiry, discovery, and creation of new knowledge and new perspectives about the world. SIUC offers research opportunities at all levels.
OSPA is the University agency for submitting grant proposals and accepting grant awards. We facilitate research and sponsored project activities at SIUC, and administer internal grant programs.
